About

Afghan Computer Science Association (ACSA) is the national non-profit association of Information Technology professionals. It was founded in 1999 to promote the use of computer and information technologies, increase general awareness among the public and to look after the professional interests of the IT personnel in the country.

Objectives

Technology Promotion

  • Promote use and development of technologies in Afghanistan
  • Encourage software development and localization trends in the country
  • Encourage software development and localization trends in the country

Digital Literacy and Professional Development

  • Professional development of individuals engaged in IT, knowledge and experience sharing through events and workshops
  • Promote digital and internet literacy in Afghanistan through education and training programs

Collaboration and Ethics

  • Foster and encourage high standards of professional ethics and conduct among its member

Standardization

  • Promote standards in IT education, services and activities

History

ACSA was founded in 1999 by a group of Afghan computer science students at the time who are now key players in the Afghan ICT sector. ACSA was joined by number of technology students and professionals in the following years. It launched its technology publication, The Computer Science, a bimonthly magazine in Pashto and Dari in the year 2000. In 2004, ACSA partnered with Ministry of Communications of Afghanistan, Microsoft Corporation, International Development Research Center (IDRC), Canada, to develop localization standards and computer technologies into local Afghan languages.
